Venezuela:
Casiquiare.

Casiquiare Watershed
Although carrying the name of the great river to the south, most of this area lies in the Orinoco drainage basin. The remaining portion of the Orinoco waters go to the Amazon, marking one of the great anomalies of nature-a river called the Casiquiare that crosses the watershed between the Orinoco and Rio Negro (which connects to the Amazon) and joins two of the great rivers of the world. It is possible to travel by water from the Orinoco through the Casiquiare and Rio Negro and to the Amazon. Legends of this route were the basis for many famous explorations by Europeans in the 18th and 19th centuries.

The blackwater rivers of the Casiquaire watershed, are well known for their productivity of large - make that giant - Peacock Bass, over 20 pounds is the norm The Iguana, a comfortable river boat on the Brazilian style, is the only lodge of its type in Venezuela. The Iguana has 5 guest rooms, 4 twins and one with a double bed, each room with its own fan. There are two bathrooms on board each with a shower. Additional equipment aboard includes generator, freezer, stove & oven, and a sat phone for communication. The Iguana will be tied up in the large lagoon of the Pasiba River.

However, because of a turn from Venezuela to Brazil, there has been very little pressure in recent years on some of the best watersheds and peacock bass fisheries in this country

The Casiquiare Watershed is probably the best sleeper giant peacock bass fishery in South America.
